SETSUNA : A Japanese word implying a flash, an instant, the smallest possible division of time.
From a perspective, then, the smallest possible division of time is NOW. Detached from the abstractions of past and future, it becomes possible to experience eternity in the present moment.
When our sound system is performing at its best, when everything is in harmonious balance, the music enraptures and immerses us in an ever-expanding envelope of NOW. We are present.
SETSUNA was designed specifically for use with tube-based front-ends, and lives quite naturally and effortlessly in various arrangements: SET, push-pull variants, OTL ...
The Setsuna project began while I was still living in Japan, during a time of turmoil when my family and I were struggling with the desire to stay but the need to return to the USA for family reasons. As I was experimenting with forms and materials, I managed to hit on something that transformed my listening sessions ... sending me into almost trance-like states, awash in music and free of distractions and attachments. It was (and is) a great comfort and relief to experience music in this extra-dimensional way.
This is the Magic Carpet Ride I seek from my musical experiences, as a way to connect both viscerally and spiritually to the music. I'm delighted to share SETSUNA with you, and wish you the most delightful and radiant musical experiences!
